Frances Perkins

Frances Perkins was the first woman as the Secretary of Labor. Before this, she was involved in the New York Consumer's League. During a lecture at Cornell University, Perkins recalls being in New York at the time of the fire, and hearing the sound of bodies hitting the pavement.

"I came to Washington to work for God, FDR, and the millions of forgotten, plain common workingmen."
-Frances Perkins
Before long Perkins was on a citizen committee whose goal was the improvement of working conditions. When she was the Secretary of Labor years later, she influenced the nation in favor of the better working conditions.
